Tyler Wood getting ready to take office as youngest election commissioner

Hattiesburg, Mississippi (WJTV) – In January 18-year-old Tyler Wood will do something that no teen before has done before in Mississippi.  He will be sworn in as an election commissioner for Forrest County.

The teen beat his opponent, District One incumbent Charles Phillips, and says that he became interested in running for office after working to help during primary season.

Wood, who is a student at Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg, says that age is not a factor and the ability to do the job is about having the “integrity, the knowledge and the experience” to do it.
