JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The House and Senate Education Committees are hearing from the public.
The public was invited to this meeting to offer suggestions as to what they would like to see in a restructured school funding formula. Each person who signs up to speak gets three minutes in front of the committees.
EdBuild was hired in October to evaluate the current school funding formula, which is MAEP. Thursday, the state Black Caucus and Baptist Convention met.
Pastor Reginald Buckley of Cade Chapel Baptist Church moderated discussion on education. He says underfunding education is a setback to students.
“Unfortunately that means students won’t be able to compete on a global scale and I’m very concerned about the final product that we’re producing for education in Mississippi,” he said.
The state hired EdBuild for $250,000. The state is paying $125,000. EdBuild grants are covering the other $125,000.
