JFD: Extended Studio Hotel fire ruled accidental


UPDATE: 11/17/2016 9:48am JFD Division Fire Chief Cleotha Sanders says that fire investigators have classified the fire as an accidental fire involving the improper disposal of smoking materials.

UPDATE: 11/17/2016 5:34am  JFD Office of Fire Investigations Division Fire Chief Cleotha Sanders says that the scene is still active at this time.  Firefighters were there beginning at 4:38am.  The building was evacuated and a search was conducted.  The fire was under control at 5:09am.

There are no reported injuries and the cause remains under investigation.  Crews are still on the scene, he says, “actively working to ensure all fire is out.”

Original Story:

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) Firefighters are working a fire at the Extended Studio Hotel in Jackson this morning.

The two-story building is located on the 800 block of East River Place, off of I-55 and Fortification Street.

WJTV’s Natay Holmes is on the scene.  She says that smoke is still coming from the building, particularly building six.  People, possibly hotel guests, are gathered outside.

There is no word on whether anyone was injured.  JFD is still working to determine the cause of the fire.
