SUMMIT, Miss. (WJTV) — A woman has died from her injuries after being beaten in the parking lot of the post office in Summit.
Summit Police Chief James Isaac said Johanna Terrell Smith died around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Chief Isaac said she was attacked on November 12 around 2 a.m.
Witnesses told police that they saw a man in a white car pull up and get out of the vehicle. They said the man walked around to the other side and pull the victim out of the car began kicking her.
Officers said the man drove off. They received several 911 calls about the incident.
Smith was taken to the hospital. Doctors said her face and a portion of her skull were crushed due to blunt force trauma.
We’re told she stayed on life support in a coma until she died.
Chief Isaac said this is the first homicide Summit has had this year. The crime is still under investigation.
