STARKVILLE, Miss. (WJTV) – Mississippi State star sophomore and former Velma Jackson standout Quinndary Weatherspoon will miss the rest of this season with a wrist injury.
Mississippi State later confirmed the news Rothstein first reported. The Bulldogs released a statement that said the Scapholunate ligament in Weatherspoon’s left wrist has “a possible tear” and will require surgery.
The injury happened late during a 80-68 win for MSU against Boise State on Nov. 18.
‘I can’t even tell you how bad I feel for Q,” Ben Howland said in a statement. “He’s worked so hard to get to where he’s at, but he knows he has the support of everyone on this team, and I expect him to fully recover and be back with us full strength next year.”
Weatherspoon had just scored a career-high 25 points in that win against Boise State. He leads the Bulldogs in scoring through four games, averaging 18.8 points per game.
The SEC named him a preseason Second Team All-SEC player coming into the season. The former Falcon had a breakout freshman campaign, ranking third on the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game and leading his squad in steals with 42.
