people here are remembering number 8.
“It was easy to see at an early age, how young he was, that he was going to be an outstanding athlete and outstanding football player.”
Head Football Coach Ty Weems says last season Lane played quarterback, but this year, he was asked to play defense.
“To step aside and put his personal goals aside and to take on a different role for our team to make our team better. that was easy to see as soon as you watched the first game you could see those kids that really stand out.”
Lane was on the way to meet friends to go hunting when he crashed. He was already looking ahead to college and talking about it with his friend and teammate Freddie Hartz.
“He was going to go to a different college, and he said we’re gonna blow y’all out in college games and stuff,” he said.
Hartz wants to go to the University of Southern Mississippi when he graduates next year.
“He promised to come watch me play, and I know he’ll keep his promise.”
