C Spire has taken the appropriate actions in response to this incident. While we cannot comment further about this specific incident, we take our obligation to protect our employees, customers and visitors very seriously and work hard to provide a safe and secure environment at all times.
RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) — A C Spire contractor in Ridgeland accidentally shot himself inside the headquarters Tuesday.
Ridgeland Police Lt. Brian Myers said they went to the scene at the headquarters located at The Renaissance at Colony Park.
The person shot himself in the leg in the bathroom.
WJTV reached out to C Spire about the incident. Below is the statement from their media relations department about what happened:
This afternoon, a C Spire contractor suffered a leg wound when a gun he was carrying accidentally discharged in a third-floor restroom at C Spire’s corporate headquarters in Ridgeland. Ridgeland Fire Department medics responded immediately along with the Ridgeland Police Department and treated the victim before transporting him to a local hospital by ambulance. The wound is not considered life-threatening. The shooting was accidental and no one else was injured.
The incident is under investigation by the Ridgeland Police Department. While it appears the individual had a permit to carry the weapon, it is a violation of company and building rules to possess a firearm on any C Spire premises, including any parking lot or facility. The rules are designed to protect our employees, customers and visitors.
