Retired NFL players serve lunch at Gateway Rescue Mission

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Some retired football players did some volunteer work at a Metro shelter Wednesday.

Among them was Lawrence Pillers, an Alcorn State University football player who was drafted to the NFL.

Pillers played for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Jets during his career.

He along with other retired players went to the Gateway Rescue Mission to serve lunch.

“Well it’s a wonderful thing to give back because this shoe could have been on our foot,” he said. “And with this, we are able to give back to the community, more than one way. We want to give back and let people know we care because it could happen to anyone.”
