Coroner identifies suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in Hattiesburg


UPDATE – Forest County Coroner Butch Benedict confirms the suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting is 23-year-old Jerome Harmon.

We’re told Harmon was killed after firing shots at an officer. The officer was not injured.

Harmon was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday or Tuesday.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WJTV) — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Hattiesburg.

According to the Hattiesburg Police Department, a possible burglary and credit card fraud suspect was spotted near Old Airport Road.

An officer tried to stop the person, but the possible suspect ran away on foot.

The person fired shots at an officer, and the officer returned fire. The officer was not hurt.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and at last check was listed in critical condition.
