MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Madison
It happened Thursday around 5 p.m. on South Place Drive.
We’re told police were responding to a call about a suicidal woman. When they arrived on the scene, they found a woman inside a home with a shotgun. They said she fired the gun at someone else in the house, but they were not injured.
Investigators say the woman then barricaded herself inside of a bathroom.
Officers thought that she was about to harm herself, so they entered the bathroom with a shield.
Police said the woman fired a shotgun at them, so they returned fire.
She was shot three times: in the left arm, right arm and breast.
She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was contacted and arrived on the scene to take charge of the investigation. The officer who discharged his firearm has been assigned to non-enforcement, administrative duties pending the conclusion of the investigation.
