JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – We hear all the time about poorly hidden christmas presents stolen from cars, and while that can be frustrating, it’s not nearly as dangerous as being irresponsible with a gun.
WJTV’S Andrew Nomura talked to local business that sells guns about how to prevent theft, and if it doesn’t work, what needs to be done right away to protect yourself
At Gold n Gun Pawn Shop, Jackie Mize knows a thing or two about guns. She knows crooks want to get their hands on a weapon, especially when people are shopping.
According to Jackson Police, they have seen more guns stolen from cars, than anywhere else.
Mize says if you’re a victim make sure you know the make, model, and serial number of all your guns, and report it stolen as soon as possible.
“if its stolen and used in a crime…police are coming straight to you,” Mize explains, it’s not just about alerting police, it’s about keeping yourself safe.
She says if you absolutely have to have a gun in your car while shopping, make sure you remember to never make it easy for criminals.
“Don’t leave it between the seats, it’s the first place they go for. Glove box, underneath the seat…” Mize adds.
