MADISON, Miss. – A person believed to be driving under the influence is in jail, after smashing into a Mississippi Highway Patrol car overnight.

Officials say just after 1 a.m. Sunday, an MHP trooper was helping a stranded driver that was blocking the left lane on I-55 in Madison.

According to MHP, two other drivers pulled over to help the man with his tire.

We are told a 2016 Infinity traveling north on I-55 slammed into the back of the patrol car, causing two other cars to make collide.

None of the drivers on the scene were inside their cars when the Infinity crashed into the patrol car.

The driver of the Infinity was not hurt, but was taken to jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence.

Two passengers in the Infinity were taken to Merit Health in Canton with minor injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

MHP is still investigating the crash.
