JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — It’s #GivingTuesday and the local chapter of the Habitat for Humanity has a way for you to participate by helping out.
Giving Tuesday is known as the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It’s a day for people to donate and volunteer at charities in communities across the nation.
Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area is offering a unique way to honor friends, family this holiday season with alternative gift cards that build houses and hope.
“We offer a great gift solution for that hard-to-buy-for-friend or family member, or for that special someone you just want to honor in a unique way,” said Merrill McKewen, executive director of HFHMCA. “Our alternative gifts in the form of specialty gift cards which also provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season while you help someone else.”
Recipients of the gifts will receive a holiday card notifying them that a donation has been made in their honor.
“We are grateful to local artists Cindy Mercer and Ellen Langford for sharing their time and talents in capturing the spirit of the holiday season with unique holiday cards spotlighting the work of Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area,” McKewen said.
Holiday cards can be sent with a special message for $25 each or 100 cards for $1,000.

- $70 – interior door
- $100 – window
- $150 – bath fixtures
- $300 – security door
- $450 – water heater
- $1,000 – lighting fixtures
- $2,500 – framing/roof
- $5,000 – foundation
- $10,000 – home repair
- $30,000 – home rehab
- $60,000 – extensive rehab
- $80,000 – new home
