JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — A man who was found lying behind a building over the weekend died Tuesday morning in a hospital.
Jackson Police are now conducting a homicide investigation into the death of 35-year-old Timothy Townsend.
Officers said he was found behind a building near Mill and Cohea streets Sunday around 2:35 a.m. Officers said it appeared that Townsend had been assaulted. He was taken to the hospital.
The investigation determined that on Saturday night around 9:15 p.m., the victim was in a silver Nissan Altima near Deer Park and Rose streets with someone else who was a passenger in the car. Authorities said they were in an accident with a white Chevy Tahoe.
There were two men inside the SUV. Police said there was an altercation between the victim and the people inside the Tahoe and they forced Townsend into the SUV with them.
They drove to another location.
The Nissan was later towed as an abandoned vehicle.
Townsend was found early Sunday morning and died Tuesday from his injuries. This is the 62nd homicide investigation for 2016.
