UPDATE: Power at McWillie Elementary has also been restored.
Power has been restored at Baker Elementary. JPS officials said McWillie Elementary now has partial power.
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — There is a power outage at Baker Elementary and McWillie Elementary.
WJTV reached out to the Jackson Public Schools District about the outages.
Classes are still in session at both schools.
Sherwin Johnson of JPS said classes would proceed at its regular time and appropriate adjustments will be made to instruction and food preparations until power is restored.
Baker Elementary is located on Santa Clair Street in Jackson. Entergy’s website shows that about 480 customers that has the school’s same zip code are without power in that area.
About 22 customers with the same zip code as McWillie Elementary have a power outage, according to the power company’s website.
The power was knocked out after storm activity in the area. It’s still unclear at this time when power will be restored, but Entergy crews are working to fix the problem.
When WJTV first checked, about 6,400 Entergy customers statewide were without power. The more than 1,900 of those outages were reported in Hinds County.
At last check, about 5,400 people were still without power across the state.
