Update: JPD identifies the weapon in possession of the suspect in the officer involved shooting


Jackson Police confirm the weapon in possession of the suspect involved in the officer involved shooting is a Beretta Co2 air (pellet) pistol.

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – At 11:30 PM Friday, Jackson Police officers responded to Studio 7 hotel no I-55 N regarding a domestic dispute.

There was a male on scene that was allegedly causing a disturbance with a female. Officers accompanied the female to the location to retrieve items.


Upon officers’ arrival, officers observed the suspect, later identified as Brandon Jones, 25; stationary in the driver’s seat of a Cadillac vehicle. His seat was reclined and officers observed a pistol laying on his upper torso.

Officers spoke with him and attempted to disarm him during the course of this incident.

Jones allegedly reached for his weapon, an officer discharged his service weapon striking Jones multiple times.

He was extracted from the vehicle and transported to UMMC via AMR for medical treatment. He is listed in stable condition.

There were no other injuries reported.

The unidentified officer will be placed on administrative leave with pay during the course of the investigation. Jones could face charges upon his release from medical treatment.

This investigation is ongoing.
