18-wheeler overturned on I-55 South in Yazoo County

The 18-wheeler is still a the scene. Traffic is back down to one lane as they work to clear the scene. MHP Cpl. Eric Henry said it could take up to two hours to completely clear.

UPDATE: 12/07/2016 6:53am  The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) has released more information regarding this morning’s accident on I-55 in Yazoo County.

According to Corporal Eric D. Henry of the MHP troopers responded to the scene at approximately 1:54am near mile marker 139 on I-55 southbound after an 18-wheeler was involved in a crash with an abandoned vehicle.

According to a written release, “The driver of the 18 wheeler fell asleep and drifted over to the right shoulder of the road and struck a parked car. The 18 wheeler then overturned in the roadway blocking the left lanes of traffic. Both lanes where closed for a period of time while crews clean up the scene.

Both lanes of traffic are now open.

Corporal Henry says that the driver of the tractor trailer, who drive for TCW out of Nashville, was not injured.  The load carried is believed to be parts for Nissan.  The load was not spilled.  no one was inside the parked vehicle.

UPDATE: 12/07/2016 6:09am WJTV’s Natay Holmes reports that traffic is at a standstill and cars are backed up for at least a mile in the area leading up to the crash.

 

 

UPDATE: 12/07/2016 5:47am Area traffic delays are listed as being approximately two hours and 30 minutes in duration.


UPDATE: 12/07/2016 5:17am WJTV is on the scene, where there is an 18-wheeler on its side.  MDOT is still reporting delays of several hours along this part of I-55 southbound.

YAZOO COUNTY, Mississippi (WJTV) Traffic delays are expected as an incident is still being cleared in Yazoo County this morning.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) reports delays southbound along I-55 past MS 432 near Exit 139.

MDOT’s website lists the traffic impact of the incident as “high,” taking several hours to clear.  There is no word on possible injuries or the extent of property damage.

Drivers are advised to use extra caution in the area.

WJTV will provide more information and traffic updates as soon as they are available.
