Businessman accused in Epps prison contract scandal files motion to dismiss guilty plea

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — One of the men accused of in the prison contracts scandal with former Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps is asking the courts to remove his guilty plea.

The attorney for Brandon businessman Cecil McCrory submitted a motion to withdraw his client’s guilty plea on Thursday.

The document states that McCrory pleaded guilty one bribery count of the indictment, which charged him with committing a conspiracy to commit money laundering.

E. Carlos Tanner, III, McCrory’s attorney, said they want to withdraw the guilty plea because his client was not adequately represented by counsel during that time.

He is asking that his client is tried before a jury. McCrory claims that he is innocent and didn’t commit the crime of money laundering.
