JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Gov. Phil Bryant along with several law enforcement agencies held a news conference Monday to discuss a weekend operation.
The briefing was held at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters. The initiative was called Operation Silent Night. Its purpose was to crack down on crime in the capital city over the weekend.
Officials said a total of 84 arrests were made on different charges: 27 of them were felony arrests. Several agencies worked together in multi-jurisdiction operation.
“I think out of a lot of things we have in common, probably the number one thing is we both have a commitment to making Jackson, Mississippi the safest capital in the United States of America. now it’s easy to say that it’s easy to mean that..but what happens sometimes is you don’t get the resources to apply to that problem,” Chief Lee Vance of JPD.

- 16 fire arms seized
- 4 stolen firearms recovered
- 266.8 grams of marijuana seized
- 11.1 grams of c cocaine seized
- 4.8 grams of crack cocaine seized
- 4 ecstasy pills seized
- 2 Xanax pills seized
- 17.8 grams of crystal meth seized
- $2,340 seized
