Working Together Jackson hosts city forum

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – A coalition of organizations met in South Jackson on May 11, 2017 to establish a plan for cooperation with potential city leaders.

Democratic mayoral candidate Chokwe Lamumba and several other candidates for local offices pledged to work with the group to address problems facing the city.  The group’s current agenda includes a focus on workforce development, accountability sessions for city leaders, neighborhood revitalization, and education.

Phil Eide with Wells Methodist Church says, “That’s why we’re here tonight…to talk about improving the community, and we’re fortunate to have Mr. Lumumba come and listen to what folks are saying…at the grassroots level, the street level of what the community needs are.”

Working Together Jackson officials say the coalition crosses racial, religious, and economic division in the city to work toward a common goal.
