KOSCIUSKO, Miss. (WJTV) — The Kosciusko Police Department is seeking information in an overnight shooting.
The shooting took place in the 500 block of Tipton Street in Kosciusko around 1:00 AM Saturday morning. As a result a 7 year old child was shot while sleeping inside a residence.
Crystal Dawson identified the child as her son, 7 year old Jeremiah Herron. “I remember BOOM! Jeremiah waking up. I’m screaming because blood was coming out of his mouth,” says Dawson.
Jeremiah was taken to Baptist Attala Emergency Room and later flown by helicopter to Jackson. He’s been at Batson Children’s Hospital ever since.
The Kosciusko Police Department says they have some suspects but no hard leads or a definite motive in the shooting. They are asking anyone with information to come forward. So is Dawson. She spoke directly to her son’s shooter Thursday, “That little boy you tried to hurt, you hurt him. That’s my baby. He has a future ahead and whoever you are, whoever did this, please come forward. Please come forward because I could have lost my baby. But guess what? I didn’t. I didn’t.”
Jeremiah just started 2nd grade on Friday. His mother says he’s a video game lover with a big brother and little sister who were both asleep at home when the shooting happened. “But guess what my baby said? Whoever you are, whoever did it, guess what he said? he’s tougher than a bullet. he’s tougher than a bullet. he said that.”
Dawson says, “But guess what my baby said? Whoever you are, whoever did it, guess what he said? He’s tougher than a bullet. He’s tougher than a bullet. He said that.”
Dawson says Jeremiah is improving although she doesn’t know yet when he’ll get to go home.
