Suspect in custody for deadly shooting at Village Apartments

Update 10/5/2017 10:00 p.m. The suspect in Thursday morning’s deadly shooting at a Jackson apartment complex is now in custody.

Jerome Breeland turned himself in to authorities in Coahoma County.

Officials say he will be transferred back to Jackson.


Jackson, MISS. (WJTV) — The Jackson Police Department responded to a deadly shooting on Thursday morning and they are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.

The incident happened at the Village Apartments on Raymond Road. According to police, an altercation led to the shooting.

Authorities identified the victim as 38-year-old Lataurus Lewis.

We’re told the suspect is 27-year-old Jerome Breeland.

Richland officers tell WJTV they went to a location on Old Highway 49 after they found a truck that they beleived Breeland was inside of Thursday morning. SWAT members and law enforcement officers said he was not inside of the truck.

JPD says Breeland may be inside of a red Chevy pickup truck with the Mississippi license plate CM4 698.
