JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba has named Anthony Moore as the Interim Chief of Police.

The announcement comes after Chief Lee Vance confirmed his retirement, effective December 31, 2017.

Moore will serve as the interim until a new chief is named. Mayor Lumumba says they will make a decision as soon as possible.

City leaders said Moore is committed to servicing the City of Jackson.

He made his first order of action hours after the announcement.

WJTV obtained a copy of a memo sent to the Jackson Police Department.

The memo, signed by Chief Moore, says Assistant Chief of Police Allen White has been demoted to lieutenant.

Moore was not at the news conference held on Tuesday. Lumumba said he is sick.
