Peters has double-double, Valparaiso beats Oregon St. 63-57

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Alec Peters scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Valparaiso beat Oregon State 63-57 on Tuesday night.

Shane Hammink and Tevonn Walker added 15 points apiece for Valparaiso (6-1). Gary Payton II had 25 points, 11 rebounds and three steals for Oregon State (4-1).

Valparaiso led 34-25 at halftime. Jubril Adekoya made four free throws and Hammink a layup to stretch the Crusaders lead to 48-31 with 12:28 remaining.

Stephen Thompson Jr. made two 3-pointers as part of a 13-3 surge to pull the Beavers to 61-55 with 35 seconds left. Peters split a pair of free throws, Thompson missed a 3-point attempt, and Hammink made a free throw to make it 63-55 with 15 seconds left.

Payton dunked with nine seconds left to cap the scoring.

It was the 100th program victory for Crusaders head coach Bryce Drew, and the first meeting between the schools.
